WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
GRAND STRAND CHAPTER
The Grand Strand Chapter was formed on January 13, 1960 to support the needs of veterans and their families across Horry County, Georgetown County and the greater Northeastern region of South Carolina. We are an independent, nonprofit, politically nonpartisan organization. Our chapter is one of 10 MOAA chapters in South Carolina welcoming all current, retired and past uniformed officers, surviving spouses of previous uniformed officers, and veteran families to the area. Our members continue a lifetime of service.
In addition to supporting legislation with our national headquarters, our Grand Strand Chapter focuses on two main areas locally:
1. Veterans and Veteran Families Outreach and Support
- Horry and Georgetown counties
2. JROTC and ROTC Support
-16 area high school JROTC units
-ROTC unit at Coastal Carolina University
All of these activities do not happen by themselves, Chapter member volunteers become involved true to the credo of “Never Stop Serving.” As they say in the Navy, a Happy Sailor is a busy Sailor, and that is also true with our membership.
However, it is not just work, we have many enjoyable times, too. Ten monthly dinner/lunch meetings where camaraderie prevails. A holiday celebration in December, a golf tournament in May, and celebratory dinners in April with newly commissioned Army officers from Coastal Carolina, and in May with high school JROTC members being awarded $3000 college scholarships.
